O relato de Hārūn bin Yaḥyà sobre Constantinopla e Roma

Este artigo apresenta uma tradução do testemunho de Hārūn bin Yaḥyà sobre as cidades de Constantinopla e Roma, remetido à virada dos séculos 3-4 H./9-10 d.C. e transmitido no Livro dos adereços preciosos do geógrafo muçulmano persa Ibn Rustah (m. circa 300 H./912 d.C.). Além das informações geográficas propriamente ditas, o relato tem alto valor histórico e ilustra diferentes aspectos pertinentes aos estudos das relações entre muçulmanos e cristãos durante o período dito medieval. Marcada por sua reivindicação autóptica, a descrição de Hārūn demonstra o interesse deste observador árabe centrado nas expressões e símbolos reais e cristãos com os quais teve contato nas duas cidades, incluindo marcos arquitetônicos, cerimônias oficiais, e costumes de seus regentes e suas populações.
